Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. When she reached nine, Decker's family resided in Louisiana which was where she took home the regional talent contest by singing the cover of Patsy's "I Want to Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker lived in Georgia at the age of aged 15. She wrote songs frequently and was regularly visiting Nashville to find deals. In 1997, she had reached the age of 17 when an Big Yellow Dog Records rep was introduced to her. The rep began selling her songs and music to various recording labels and artists. The demos of Decker were sent over to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was then in charge for Island/Def Jam. Reid then signed Decker to a recording deal. Jessie James, her moniker for her album that she dropped under that name in August 2009, was self-titled. Jessie James was reasonably successful and featured Wanted a single that brushed into the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker always thought of herself as a singer from the country genre however, the album's promotion and production was targeted at a more pop-oriented audience. Decker battled with the label to gain more control of her music after two other singles failed. The album she released next, Boys in the Summer was a more traditional album. Decker's second album, announced as Daughter of a Gypsy and Sweet American Dreams by Mercury Records, was canceled after Mercury noticed the weak performances of three of her singles on country radio charts.
